I drift in and away from the shore, rolling on the swell of this ocean. I stare into the blue depth of the sky and I am aboard Providence, sitting at the bow with Leo, and I can hear that lovely cradling sound of water lapping over wood that I always loved, that would lull me to sleep in my little bunk.

A face appears above me, so close that I can smell the fear coming from it. The features are blurred and its mouth is moving but there is no sound, and the lovely water sound has become a low, pulsing moan. I have fallen into the ocean and my ears are full of water. The fluid sloshes around inside my head, back and forth, crashing up against one side of my skull and then reflecting back to the other, over and over until I feel as if my head is going to part at the knitted seams of bone in my childhood skull.
